The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in Iconic Rivalry

Test match action

Pat Cummins has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chief selector Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might be unavailable due to a ongoing back issue that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest kicking off on the 21st of November in Perth.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and felt positive about the likelihood of participating.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and various factors at play, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," the selector added.

"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a major part. With luck from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Injury History

He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after examinations confirmed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with recurrences in multiple past seasons forcing him out of three Australian summers in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

The selector indicated that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.

Contingency Plans

In case of absence, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "ideally positioned to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the opening match as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games regardless. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for another day, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
