19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

His defensive approach and regular outbursts on court had caused observers to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
